Open books on a small Bitcoin mine

Mining

This is the account for my one Bitcoin miner, an Antminer S21+ in a hosting facility. It will show every dollar in and every dollar out, by date, including any month it loses money.

Status, November 7, 2026. The figures are being reconciled against the original records and will be posted here. Until that is done, this page shows no numbers. A figure that hasn’t been checked against a record doesn’t go in the books.

What the account will show

One running account, from the day the machine was bought to the latest closed month. These are the lines it will carry.

The structure of the account. Figures will be added once they are reconciled.

Where each figure comes from

  • Hardware: the purchase receipt and the shipping invoice.
  • Hosting: the hosting provider’s invoices, month by month.
  • Mining income: the pool’s daily earnings reports, which record the bitcoin earned and its dollar value that day.
  • Pool fees: the pool’s withdrawal records.
  • Repairs: repair tickets and their invoices.

The rules I keep

  • Dated. Every line carries the date of the record behind it.
  • Sourced. Every line traces to an invoice, a pool record or a repair ticket. Nothing is modelled and nothing comes from a profitability calculator.
  • Losses included. The hardware cost stays in the account. A position that leaves out what the machine cost isn’t the position.
  • Bitcoin I still hold is shown on its own line, at its value on the closing date, as a memo. Mined bitcoin is already credited at its value on the day it was earned, so the holding is not added to the position a second time.
  • Corrections are entries. If a figure turns out to be wrong, the original line stays visible and a dated correcting entry is posted beneath it.

When it updates

Once the figures are posted, the account is updated after each month’s records close. The month-end email carries the same update: what the machine earned, what it cost, and anything I got wrong.

This page replaces the old Mining Dashboard, which showed live numbers with no date or source attached. Live numbers aren’t ledger entries, so it is gone.

Related entries

These are my own results from one machine. They are not typical, not a forecast, and not financial advice. Mining can and does lose money.
